Introducing the new flag of the State of Illinois… Maybe…

A couple months ago, I had a friend and fellow designer from Western Illinois University Caren Bordowitz tell me about an exciting contest happening to redesign the flag of ILLINOIS! I won't lie I really like contents like that because I feel like it really can be anyone's game and so exciting to possible see the future waving around and knowing you designed it!

Plus if I'm being honest, I would love to add that accreditation to LEGENDERRY™ 's portfolio.

I have lived in Illinois my whole life in a part of it commonly referred to as Forgottonia. My hope if chosen is to help this wonderful part of our state be less forgettable. Every Illinoisan deserves to be proud of this state and it's people!

So without further ado here are what I submitted for my flag designs.

Flag Design #1
for Illinois

This flag has 21 stripes symbolizing IL being the 21st state in the USA. It draws inspiration from the red, white, and blue of America, but firmly has green to represent the rows and rows of fertile soil we live on and feed the world with. A slanted star is to show forward momentum into the future for the whole state. Thank you!

The typeface is called Industry and is a powerful reminder of the many industries that make their home here. The lines cut through the typeface represent the differences we face, but together we are stronger.

The commission will select 10 designs based on how they reflect the identity of Illinois and will host an online public survey for the public to vote on their favorites or to keep the current flag. Voting will begin Jan. 1 and last six weeks. Hopefully one of these will make the top 10, but more importantly…
